Halloween in Greenwich Village

After watching the Greenwich Village parade on TV for many years, we decided to see it in person. The night was mild, the crowds were thick, but we got there early to secure our front-row up-against-the-barricade spots.

The official estimates included 50,000 marchers and 2 million watchers, many of whom were in costume.

We got to the village early enough to have dinner at the window in an enclosed sidewalk cafe and watched the 'pre-show.' It was sometimes difficult to decide if someone was in costume or just a regular freaky village-dweller.
