Fathers' Day

The fathers of my family came together with their children (my grandchildren) to have a day in the sun filled with good cheer, plenty of food and a relaxing dip in the pool.

 You already know what we look like.   This is some of the food.

The mothers were there, too.

Cradle of Aviation Museum

We went to the Cradle of Aviation Museum.  This former aeroport is now the home for this museum as well as the Firefighters Museum and the Long Island Children's Museum.

Many people do not realize the large role that Long Island played in the development of flight.  It was here that Glenn Curtis won the Scientific American Award for the first flight exceeding 25 kilometers, Charles Lindbergh took off from here on his way to Paris and the Tuskeegee Airmen, although they trained in Alabama, came from here.

Other things happened here, too.  To find out more, go to the museum.  There at a lot of buttons to push and levers to pull - Some of them work.

Sarah likens a visit to an aircraft museum to visiting a hardware store with the added chance of something really heavy falling on her head.

In what I thought was a clever way to keep people from touching artifacts, the CoA Museum put barbed wire around exhibits.

 








However, I was wrong.  The barbs are rubber.  But it's still a good idea.  AMNH, take note!
