The Naming

The Naming of
Elora Arynn
October 10, 2010

On a glorious fall afternoon this past Sunday, we hosted the Hebrew naming ceremony for our granddaughter Elora Arynn, the child of our daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Mark. We were pleased that the weather was mild and sunny since the crowd was really too large to be comfortably accommodated inside.

The ceremony took place on our front porch while the attendees sat in chairs (ours and many borrowed) on the lawn. The ceremony, in which our children and in-laws participated, was led by Allen and included prayers and blessings in Hebrew and English.

Since I was too busy to take photographs, I really appreciate the efforts of those family members and friends who did so and sent them to me. I took none of the precious photos below.

Mark says a blessing over the fruit of the vine and Allen over the challah in preparation for the seudah, the festive meal which follows ceremonies. Sarah spent several days making arrangements for the seudah which was served, buffet style, from the dining room and a canopy on the lawn.

Mark & several of the guests.
Some chose to eat outside; some ate in the living room or den.

Our other grandchildren shared in the festivities.
